Surya is a project from Rome, formed by Joe Casagrande, Matthew Mountford and Roberto Lycke.
Born in 1995 their creativity thrived from dub roots, influenced with breaks and ethnic music samples that allowed them to collaborate with artists such as Muslimgauze, Isabel Waidner, 9 Lazy 9 and Pressure Drop.
The trio were active on the electronic music scene in the late '90s, performing in clubs like GOA, Agatha, Livello 57, Blue Cheese and many more, but also playing with seminal groups like ORB and Loop Guru and participating in Festivals such as Live Link, Locarno Off, Enzimi and Biotech Festival.
"Wide Tuning" was Surya's first release, an extremely unique debut that goes beyond dance music boundaries. Self-produced in 1997 and released only on cd until now.
